The Stratford sisters, Bianca (Meaghan Jette Martin) and Kat (Lindsey Shaw), have very different goals. Season Two (2002–2003) is set 18 months after Season One. The season's main plot follows the work of now-President David Palmer and agent Jack Bauer to stop terrorists from detonating a nuclear bomb in Los Angeles. Introduced into the situation is Kate Warner, a woman who ends up getting vital information related to CTU's mission.

Like Season One, this season can also be essentially broken into two acts:

1. The first act involves CTU attempting to stop a Middle Eastern terrorist cell from detonating a nuclear bomb in Los Angeles.
2. In the second act, Jack, Kate, and CTU try to prevent a misdirected retaliatory strike from the U.S. by exposing the real masterminds who let the terrorists acquire the bomb.

Season Three takes place three years after the events shown in Season Two. The season's main plot revolves around the threat of biological terrorism—a deadly virus being released in Los Angeles—while President Palmer is visiting to participate in a debate with the chief opponent in his re-election campaign.

The season can be broken essentially into three acts (all three revolve around securing the virus):

1. CTU must stop a terrorist threat of releasing a deadly virus into the Los Angeles populace if drug kingpin Ramon Salazar is not released from jail.
2. Jack must intercept the virus as it is sold in a transaction in Mexico.
3. The real villain of the day is discovered and CTU must stop him from spreading the deadly weaponized virus strain.

Season Four (2005) is set 18 months after Season Three. Jack is now working for Secretary of Defense James Heller after being fired by CTU due to his heroin addiction. As the day begins, he gets caught up in an elaborate terrorist plot which involves both men and the daughter of Heller, Audrey Raines, who doubles as her father's chief policy assistant and Jack's lover. Jack is reinstated as CTU Director of Field Operations by Erin Driscoll, the Chief Director of CTU and the woman who fired him, who may have realized it was a mistake to remove him in the first place.

Unlike previous seasons, which focused on a singular threat, multiple enemies, and conspiracies, this season is based around one main enemy: a terrorist named Habib Marwan who controls a series of Middle Eastern terrorist cells that launch a series of attacks against the United States. This was somewhat accidental; Marwan was originally intended to only appear in six episodes, but the producers were so impressed by Arnold Vosloo's performance that Marwan became the season's main villain.

Day 4 also takes a different approach in its storytelling. Rather than two large acts, this season is divided into several smaller acts depending on what terrorist threat Marwan came up with.

1. The kidnapping and planned broadcast of the execution of the Secretary of Defense.
2. Nuclear power plants across America are sent into a forced meltdown.
3. Terrorists steal a stealth fighter to shoot down Air Force One.
4. Jack and Marwan scramble to get a hold of the nuclear football.
5. The terrorists steal and launch a nuclear missile.

After the events in Season Four, Counter Terrorist Unit agent Jack Bauer is now working as a day-to-day laborer at an oil refinery under the alias "Frank Flynn" in Mojave, California. Jack is renting a room north of Los Angeles from Diane Huxley, a single mother, and her 15-year-old son Derek.

Season Five is supposed to be a monumental day in Charles Logan's presidency. He is scheduled to sign an anti-terrorism alliance treaty with Russian President Yuri Suvarov at his retreat in Hidden Valley, California. This is believed to be the motive behind most of the day's events, as the Russian-separatist terrorists (presumably Chechen, although this is never stated explicitly) who carry out the day's attacks believe the treaty will increase the suffering of their people.

Season Six (2007) is set 20 months after Season Five. Show designers acknowledge that they avoid the use of dates in order to have the show remain in a "perpetual now."[1]

After the events in Season Five and over the last 11 weeks before Day 6, the United States has been targeted coast-to-coast in a series of suicide bombings. A man named Abu Fayed agrees to give the U.S. the location of Hamri Al-Assad, the supposed terrorist mastermind of these attacks, in exchange for CTU Agent Jack Bauer with whom he has a personal grudge. As a result, President Wayne Palmer has negotiated the release of Bauer, who was illegally captured by Chinese Government Agents at the end of Day 5, under "high-price" terms.

However, while under torture from Fayed, Bauer finds out that Assad is actually trying to stop the attacks, and Fayed is the true mastermind. Jack manages to escape, and saves Assad from being killed in an air strike. Jack and CTU, with Assad's help, discover Fayed's true intention: to detonate nuclear bombs on U.S soil. After one nuclear strike, Jack has the task of recovering the remaining nukes, thus setting up the day's chain of events.

The 4400 (pronounced "The Forty-four Hundred") is a science fiction TV series produced by CBS Paramount Network Television in association with Sky Television, Renegade 83 and American Zoetrope for USA Network. The show was created and written by Scott Peters and René Echevarria, and it stars Joel Gretsch and Jacqueline McKenzie. The series ran for four seasons from 2004 until its cancellation in 2007. In the pilot episode, what was originally thought to be a comet deposits a group of exactly 4400 people at Highland Beach, in the Cascade Range foothills near Mount Rainier, Washington. Each of the 4400 had disappeared at various times starting from 1946 in a beam of white light. None of the 4400 have aged from the time of their disappearance. Confused and disoriented, they remember nothing between the time of their disappearance and their return.
