1.Night of the Generals
(1967) When a prostitute turns up dead during World War II, a German intelligence officer (Omar Sharif) is assigned to investigate and draws up a short list of three suspects, based on an eyewitness account that the killer wore the uniform of a Wehrmacht general. The men under investigation include a high-ranking Nazi officer (Peter O'Toole) whose sadistic tendencies seem to point to a murderous streak. Christopher Plummer co-stars.

casablanca(1942)
Of all the "gin joints" in Morocco, Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman), with husband Victor (Paul Henreid) in tow, had to walk into the one owned by Rick (Humphrey Bogart), a former beau she abandoned in Paris. War looms over them all, and in a much-discussed ending, Rick and Ilsa make heroic but heartbreaking choices. As time goes by, director Michael Curtiz's 1942 classic war noir only gets better. Peter Lorre and Claude Rains also star.

Movie director Harry Dawes (Humphrey Bogart), in a sequence of flashbacks, ponders the life of ravishing Tinseltown star Maria Vargas (Ava Gardner). A flamenco dancer at a two-bit cabaret when a trio of showbiz VIPs discovers her, Maria finds fame, fortune and love in the blink of an eye. To Have and Have Not
(1944) UR Dynamic duo William Faulkner and Jules Furthman scripted this Howard Hawks classic starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall (who, rumor has it, fell in love on the set) that's supposedly based on an Ernest Hemingway tome. Bogie is Harry Morgan, a charter boat owner who falls for Bacall's seductive petty thief, Marie Browning. Can't-miss scenes include the now-legendary "You know how to whistle, don't you?" exchange between Bogie and Bacall.

As he waits to carry out his mission of blowing up a bridge behind enemy lines, Robert falls in love -- with Maria (Ingrid Bergman), a peasant girl who's joined the resistance. Katina Paxinou won an Oscar for her supporting role as the guerillas' gritty doyenne

Gone with the Wind
(1939) Margaret Mitchell's sweeping Civil War saga remains one of the greatest examples of cinematic storytelling. Vivien Leigh's tempestuous Scarlett O'Hara and Clark Gable's handsome rogue Rhett Butler bicker and battle from antebellum plantations to the streets of postwar Atlanta. This special collector's edition features a beautifully restored print and many extras

The Sound of Music
(1965) The hills are alive with the sound of singing siblings and nuns! In Rodgers and Hammerstein's greatest collaboration, a feisty postulant named Maria (Julie Andrews) is sent to care for the unruly, motherless Von Trapp children. She soon tames them -- and finds herself falling for their stern father (Christopher Plummer). Oscar-winning director Robert Wise used stunning Austrian locations to transform the stage musical into a cinema classic.

On a serene New England campus, an emasculated professor (Richard Burton) and his rancorous wife (Elizabeth Taylor, who racked up a Best Actress Oscar) turn an evening of cocktails into an unrelenting onslaught of wrenching disclosures and bellowed epithets. Soon the couple's guests -- a junior professor (George Segal) and his colorless wife (Sandy Dennis) -- get sucked into the vortex of the warring duo's unbounded fury and endless antipathy

Marlon Brando spellbinds as the brutish Stanley Kowalski in Tennessee Williams's classic rumination on carnal attraction and faded gentility. After losing the family plantation to creditors, Blanche DuBois (Vivien Leigh) travels to New Orleans hoping to find comfort with her sister (Kim Hunter), Stanley's wife. But Blanche gets more than she bargained for. Oscars went to Leigh, Hunter and Karl Malden for their monumental performances.
